KC Urban Development Beats Suburban Development Hands Down
March 31st, 2008 10:09 AM

It seems every time I drive around in Kansas City's suburbs I see another Lowe's or Target going up. How many big box stores do we need? One at every intersection? Can't we drive another 10 minutes to pick up our paint or toilet paper?

That's what I like about urban development. Maybe because there's so many people involved and affected (16,000 downtown residents to date), what goes in goes in with a lot of thought an research. Thus you see local coffee shops, art studios, creative hair salons (Hair Spray Cafe in the River Market) and Irish pubs in the P&L district. The Costentino's grocery store that will open later this year will be a 30,000 square foot full-service grocery store and deli wtih a 240 unit condo tower on top.. It's all unique, refreshing, welcomed and needed.

Go downtown Kansas City.

Quality Hill Goes Condo
March 25th, 2008 8:46 AM

I got a sneak peek at Quality Hill's models yesterday when one of my clients reserved a 2-bdrm for $500 bucks. They're quite a deal and quite nice inside with two bedrooms going for $89,500 and one bedrooms fgoing or $79,500. Kansas City wants affordable housing for its working class, particularly its downtown workers, but the catch is to qualify for a purchase at Quality Hill you can't make more than $29K as a single person or $32K as a couple.

May I Recommend a Cup of Sunshine at the Filling Station at Battery Park?
March 14th, 2008 10:20 AM

I just love finding new hip places to hang out in Kansas City. Yesterday while waiting for my virtual tour at Battery Lofts to be shot, I stepped into the Filling Station for something to nosh on. And because everybody and there dog was carrying out cup after cup of this special orange drink, I asked for one of those too. The Filling Station's cup of sunsine (an orange juice, carrrot juice smoothie combo) is just that -- a happy drink. Stop by for one and take in the city from this surrreal little coffee shop.

I Walked Main Street
March 14th, 2008 10:13 AM

March 7th I bundled up to walk from my River Market Office to JPs to have drinks with friends prior to seeing Michael Buble. Richard asked me to meet him at the parking lot at 13th and Central, but why? I love my urban roots and urban office because I'm in the heart of things -- so why drive, when you can walk even when the weather was a mere 28 degrees.

As I walked from 5th to 10th street, I noticed I was the only person using the Main Street sidewalk -- everybody was bumper to bumper scratching for a parking place. Then as I hit 11 and 12th street the complexion of the downtown sidewalk scene change. Wallah, there were people. People walking, people talking, people drinking coffee, people rushing into restaurants to meet other people. Kansas City, you've made good on your promise to bring bodies downtown. I saw it, I tasted it and it was sweet.

And the concert was even sweeter. I'm in love with Michael Buble and Naturally 7 who opened for him. This was my first Sprint Center experience (I had to give up my Elton John tickets due to a funeral) and it was a fab one. Thanks Kansas City.
