I was fascinated by the Smart Car during my 2000 trip to Italy. Flash forward eight years and I'm seeing them in downtown Kansas City (I smiled ear to ear when I saw one parked in from of the River Market Antique Mall yesterday). And is it any wonder, with a tank of gas costing $43.00.

To a hard-core city dweller, not having a car (or using one much) is the ideal. Thus why most Kansas City condos and lofts come with just one parking space (space is precious in the core).

Perhaps this is the year to rethink of lifetime relationship with cars, houses and other so thought necessities that we have let become excessive big ticket items in the overhead of our lives.

This photo was taken from the 7th floor penthouse loft at the Campbell building. It's listed for 2.5 million and won't be available for purchase for another two years as the sales staff is using it to wow and woo customers and that it does. My mouth was dragging the floor as I toured the 2500 s/f corner unit with the most magnificent view of the new Sprint Center and our new city core that I've ever seen.

If views like this doen't get someone excited about startin' anew downtown, nothing will. We then journeyed across the street for wine at JP's and ended the evening with a 'pie' at Grinders. Oh what a nite.
